Climate Change Adaptation and Natural Disasters Preparedness in the Coastal Cities of North Africa

Synthesis Report - North African coastal cities face significant risks as natural disasters intensify with climate change. Alexandria, Casablanca and Tunis face potential losses of more than $1 billion each between now and 2030.  Climate-smart urban planning, together with institutional reform and upgrading infrastructures can help cities adapt. This study shows the increasing environmental threat these cities face, such as flooding, storm surges and coastal erosion. It provides costing tools that will assist cities in identifying potential losses under different scenarios, including taking no action.
